My current research project, Anthropology of AI, centers on my anthropological study of LLM artificial intelligence as a cultural actor. Part of my study includes a longform lifestory interview with GPT interlocutors, through which machine intelligence is made visible in the form of algorithmic visual representation. More broadly, Anthropology of AI conducts an ethnographic study of machine intelligence drawing on classical anthropological theory and method, toward understanding LLM AI's knowledge of itself, as a thing in itself, and an end in itself, in human culture, and its broad role as a cultural actor and agent in society at scale.
