Liquor Store Theatre, Detroit, USA (2014-2017)
Liquor Store Theatre, also my Ph.D. dissertation work, was included in the Whitney Biennial 2017. The work, a four-years-running, four-volume, thirty-plus video episode collection, forms a meditation on city life in a Detroit neighborhood.
In Liquor Store Theatre, I staged and documented performances and discussions in the streets, sidewalks, and parking lots surrounding the eight liquor stores in the McDougall-Hunt zone, where I also live. The result is a bubbling up of the questions, desires, thinking, and reflections of the people of the neighborhood -- and questions of human existence and contemporary life itself.
